This is a tribute painting to the American Icon: Johnny Cash. Cash has shaped American Culture and my childhood. I remember my uncles would play his songs around the campfires at our family reunions at Garner State Park at the Frio River in Texas. These are some of the best memories I have.

To make this painting I collected vinyl records from all over the country. These are some of my favorite albums and I submerged them in resin over the base panel as a time capsule of his life’s work. Then I painted his portrait in acrylic paints and found inspiration listening to his entire body of work while I painted. His lyrics moved through me and came out through every brush stroke. (This has to be one of my favorite paintings thus far. )
